Renovations approved for Pitt-Johnstown’s college park apartments




JOHNSTOWN, PA – The $6.5 million renovation of the Pitt-Johnstown College Park Apartments was among the projects approved by the Property and Facilities Committee of the University of Pittsburgh’s board of trustees on March 30, 2016.

All told, the University approved seven renovation and upgrade projects totaling $34.7 million, in addition to four leases. The projects are expected to create 186 construction jobs and 74 support jobs.

Pitt-Johnstown’s College Park Apartments were last used in spring 2013. Updates to the facility, located along Theatre Drive in Richland Township, are expected to be completed in spring 2017.

The building has 60 apartments, both one- and two-bedroom, and a total of 140 residential bed spaces, according to Amy Buxbaum, Pitt-Johnstown’s vice president for finance and administration.

Renovations will include: New heating, ventilation and air conditioning throughout; electrical upgrades throughout building; new roof; removing balconies and repairs to exterior lintels; adding disabled-accessible units: upgrading kitchens and bathrooms as needed; new carpeting throughout; new windows and a sprinkler system.
