Habitat for Humanity of Centre, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Lycoming and Snyder-Union- Northumberland Counties*

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization that works to fight housing instability in communities in 70 countries and all 50 states. Since its founding in 1976, Habitat has worked in nearly 1,400 communities and helped more than 13 million people.

Housing instability is an often overlooked or unseen problem in local communities that is more prevalent than some might think. Families and neighbors are having to make impossible decisions daily — rent or a doctor’s bill? Food on the table or transportation to work?

Habitat is fighting this pandemic by partnering with families to help give them back their lives by providing decent and stable housing and the access to the skills and financial education necessary for them to become successful homeowners. The organization sums up its mission perfectly with one sentence: “Through shelter, we empower.”

If you want to join the fight to end housing instability in your community or internationally, Habitat has a volunteer option that is perfect for you. The organization also has multiple donation programs, including corporate giving, peer-to-peer fundraising, car donations, ReStores and more. Visit www.habitat.org/volunteer to learn how you can help families in need “achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life.”
