Geisinger and Stanford launch new sleep study

DANVILLE, Pa. – Geisinger has launched its participation in a new research program led by the Stanford University school of medicine. The study, titled Stanford Technology, Analytics and Genomics in Sleep (STAGES), is designed to provide investigators with more information about sleep and sleep disorders. Geisinger is currently accepting participants and will enroll over 11,000 individuals.

Geisinger is conducting the research in conjunction with a cohort of other medical and sleep research facilities including the Stanford school of medicine, Mayo Clinic, St. Luke’s Hospital, MedSleep and Bogan Sleep Consultants. The study will enroll 30,000 participants in total.

“There is so much about sleep and sleep disorders that we do not fully understand,” said Anne Morse, DO, principal investigator of the study and sleep specialist at Geisinger. “Sleep impacts everything from physical and mental health to a person’s work ability and even the health of their personal relationships. This research will help doctors learn more and find better solutions to treat sleep disorders.”

Participants must be 13 years old or older and be referred to a Geisinger Sleep Clinic.

Participation includes completing questionnaires and other research activities.

Participants will be seen at sleep clinics in Danville at Geisinger Medical Center, in Bloomsburg at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital and in Wilkes-Barre at the Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Sleep Clinic. Recruitment may expand to other Geisinger locations.
