Conemaugh Memorial hosts Addiction Crisis Summit

Johnstown, PA - Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center hosted a free healthcare professional opportunity on the national addiction crisis and a free educational opportunity to the public focused on non- opioid options for pain management. The Addiction Crisis Summit was planned in partnership with Conemaugh Health System and the Heathcare Committee of the Cambria County Drug Coalition and was funded by a grant funding from PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The healthcare professional event was held on Oct. 18 at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Living Learning Center. Topics included national/regional trends in opioid data, community response to the epidemic, improving medical safety, non-opioid options for pain management, designer drugs and SBIRT training. Conemaugh Health System is accredited by the Pennsylvania Medical Society to providing continuous medical education for its physicians.

A free public educational opportunity was also held on the same day at the Living Learning Center. The event was hosted by Conemaugh Physician Group pain management specialist Steven Guirand, MD. The main topic was non–opioid options for pain management.
