Local grocery store re-opens with loan from Fay-Penn Economic Development Council

HOPWOOD, PA - Mount Pleasant Foodland Fresh, Inc., dba Hopwood Foodland recently received a loan from the Fay-Penn Economic Development Council’s Small Business Loan Fund.

When Adrian’s Market in Hopwood closed in December of 2016, residents were left without a local grocery store, and many of their employees found themselves unemployed. Luckily, Jeffrey Ross stepped up to re-open this market, with plans to create a minimum of 30 jobs, operating as a Foodland.

Ross has been hard at work replacing and installing a new refrigeration system as well as minor cosmetic changes to the interior of the building and welcomes old and new customers.

Somerset Trust Company assisted with financing and continues to house an STC branch inside the store.

“It is with heartfelt gratitude that the folks at Fay-Penn and Somerset Trust enabled us to resurrect a community institution in that of the former Adrian’s Market in Hopwood, PA. Without the lending offerings of these institutions, the transformation of Adrian’s into a “Close to Home” Hopwood Foodland could never have come to fruition,” Ross said.
