The Blair County Chamber of Commerce

Est. 1887

Founded in 1887 as the Altoona Board of Trade, the Blair County Chamber of Commerce has grown from a small group of local merchants to an organization of 1,054 businesses encompassing nearly 42,000 employees.

The Chamber currently features a wide variety of programming, much of it dealing with workforce development. Among its signature programs are the Leadership Blair County and Leadership Blair County Youth; BASICS (businesses and schools investing in cooperative solutions), which also includes subcommittees addressing early childhood education, career shadowing and next generation workforce; public policy; WE-LEaD (Women Encouraging – Leadership, Education and Development); transportation; committee of nonprofit businesses; presidents’ forum; workplace wellness; Coalition on Sustainability; Young Professionals of Blair County; Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!); Blair County Retail; Buy Here. Live Here and Farm-City.

The chamber also operates an executive roundtable as well as roundtables targeting Blair County Attractions and Hotels. Major events held by the Chamber include the Business Hall of Fame dinner, the Blair County Home and Garden Show and the Business Excellence dinner.

The chamber also boasts a foundation that assists in providing funding for all educational programs dealing with young people. The chamber staff consists of seven full-time employees. The chamber’s board of directors has 21 members.
