Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau

State College
Est. 1963

The Central PA Convention and Visitors Bureau (CPCVB) was founded in 1963 as the Centre County Vacation Land Council. In 2003, they changed the name to Central PA Convention and Visitors Bureau to more accurately identify their location within Pennsylvania for travelers outside of the area. The organization attends and participates in a variety of trade shows and sales missions all aimed at attracting business for the area in the form of leisure, meeting, convention and sports travel.

Since their mission is to bring travelers into the area to help boost the local economy, most of the group’s promotional efforts on behalf of the community are performed outside of the area. However, CPCVB’s Tourism Grant Program (designed to help local nonprofits with their tourism marketing) has been extremely successful. Since 2003, CPCVB has awarded over $3.2 million to more than 80 Centre County nonprofit organizations to assist them with their marketing efforts. They are also instrumental in the development of the Festival of Trees, Central PA Tasting Trail, Downtown State College Rotary Ice Cream Festival and Happy Valley Culinary Week.

The CPCVB is proud of having its vision of visitor centers for Centre County come to fruition in the form of the Centre County/Penn State Visitors Center – a partnership with Penn State and their satellite visitor center at the train station in Bellefonte - a partnership with the Bellefonte Intervalley Area Chamber of Commerce. These visitor centers enable the organization to have direct interaction with travelers, including students and their families, helping direct them to local businesses such as lodging, attractions and restaurants, which, in turn, has a positive impact on the local economy.
