Steven P. Johnson


UPMC Susquehanna

Steven P. Johnson has served as president and CEO of UPMC Susquehanna, formerly known as Susquehanna Health, since 2004. Johnson is excited about the merger, as he believes it has tremendous potential for the region.

Prior to this position, he was the system chief operating officer and president of Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Divine Providence Hospital, Muncy Valley Hospital and Susquehanna Health Medical Group. Johnson also held leadership positions for North Central Pennsylvania Health System and Lycoming County Government.

Johnson received his B.A. from Lycoming College and a M.A. in public administration with a healthcare emphasis from Marywood University, though he notes he wishes he had gotten his Ph.D immediately after completing his master’s degree.

He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, a member of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees and is the chairman for the AHA’s Pa., N.J. and N.Y. regional policy board. He is a member of the Vizient, Inc.’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Board and a past member of the VHA, Inc. National Board of Directors. He also serves on the board of directors for Little League International, the Pennsylvania College of Technology, M&T Bank’s regional advisory board, project Bald Eagle, the Williamsport Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and the Economic and Community Growth Corporation. Johnson was also previously chairman of the Hospital & Health systems Association of Pennsylvania’s board.

Johnson has received many honorable achievements including being named the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year, Williamsport Sun- Gazette Person of the Year, Lycoming College Alum of the Year and AHA Grassroots Champion for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is also the recipient of the Lycoming-County United Way Douglas C. Dickey Humanitarian Award and the Boy Scouts of America’s Distinguished Citizen Award.

In his spare time, Johnson enjoys woodworking, golf and spending time with his wife, Mary Ann, and their four grandchildren.
