Leah Spangler

The Learning Lamp and Ignite Education Solutions

Leah Spangler is the founding CEO of The Learning Lamp, Ignite Education Solutions, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage all students in the support they need to be successful. The organizations, together, serve more than 30,000 children each year in 57 school districts through 17 counties in Pa.

Spangler is a graduate of Temple University, holds a graduate degree in journalism from Northwestern University and is currently working on completing her Ph.D in educational leadership and administration at Point Park University.

Before her career in the nonprofit sector, Spangler worked as a journalist for 20 years and lectured in public relations, nonprofit management and social enterprise for the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Saint Francis University.

Though she loves her work, Spangler struggles to find time to live life outside her career. In addition to her busy schedule, she also currently serves as vice chair of the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Foundation board and is a member of the board of directors for the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce.

“I struggle with work-life balance,” Spangler said. “This is an ongoing issue for me. I enjoy my work and I work hard. My focus for 2017 is to do a better job of achieving a balance between work and home - spending quality time with my children and doing a better job of taking care of myself while also ensuring the organization meets its strategic goals.”
