Elmer C. Laslo

President and CEO

1st Summit Bank

Under Elmer Laslo’s leadership for the past 39 years, 1st Summit Bank has grown from a $17 million to a $1 billion institution with 16 banking offices located in Cambria, Blair, Somerset, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.

Laslo is a community leader who is involved in many civic and nonprofit organizations. He is a past chairman of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association and the current president of both the Enterprise Venture Capital Corporation and the Johnstown Business District Development Corporation. He is also a long time church council member at Christ Lutheran Church. Laslo is a long-standing member of YPO, the premier forum for CEOs and presidents worldwide.

In addition, he is a 1970 graduate of Geneva College with an economics degree and completed the Graduate School of Banking Program at the University of Wisconsin, sponsored by Bank Administration Institute. Several years later, he chaired the Community Banking Major for the school.

Recently, Laslo was featured in the American Banker magazine for his involvement, engagement and mentoring programs with his professionals at the bank.

Earlier in his career, Laslo wishes he would have interned at different businesses instead of taking manual labor jobs.

“Even though the manual labor helped me be in good physical shape, you can’t replace having experience in your field of study. This is why we always hire numerous college interns, so they can receive the experience that I didn’t,” he said.
