David Stern

Owner, President and CEO

Paris Companies

Upon graduating from Duquesne University in 1973, David Stern joined his family’s retail laundry business, which was supposed to be a temporary stop on the way to his real career. However, his entrepreneurial ambition took over, and he expanded the business into uniform rental and healthcare linen management services by founding what is now Paris Companies.

Looking back, Stern wishes he would have reached out for more guidance when he first started growing Paris Companies.

“The error I regret most occurred very early in my career. I was expanding the scope of Paris business from a simple retail laundry into B2B textile services. There was a bit of trial and error involved, and the mistake I made was not looking hard enough for a mentor. Granted, this was rural Pennsylvania before the days of the internet and instant communication, but I could have saved myself many mistakes and sleepless nights if I’d have looked harder for the help I needed. From this, I learned to be very comfortable asking for help when I need it and accepting input from all quarters,” he said.

Over the next 40-plus years as owner, CEO and president Stern led Paris to become one of the largest, privately-owned textile and linen management service companies in the country.

In 2016, Paris completed its thirty-eighth consecutive year of revenue growth. He is most proud that Paris is one of the largest and most stable employers in Clearfield County and has never imposed a layoff.

Outside of his business, Stern serves as a member of the Clearfield-Jefferson Counties Regional Airport Authority, striving to maintain the DuBois Regional Airport as a valuable local business and travel resource.
