Barbara Hauge, RLA, ASLA

Landscape Architect

UpStreet Architects, Inc.

Barbara Hauge is a registered landscape architect at UpStreet Architects, Inc.; a partner of InHouse Architects, LLC; and program manager for the WalkWorks program in Indiana County. She is a graduate of Penn State University and City College of New York with degrees in horticulture and landscape architecture respectively and studied abroad in Taiwan, Japan and France. She lectures on best practices in stormwater management, Japanese Garden Design and other garden or landscape topics and chairs LINC (Livable Indiana Neighborhood Connections), which works to create safer bike and pedestrian routes.

In 2016 as the Indiana County WalkWorks program manager, Barbara helped to organize and was a speaker for the state-wide Whole Health Conference: Biking, Walking and Good Nutrition held in Indiana, Pa.

Currently she designs landscapes for residential clients and housing developments and is organizing the Indiana County Walking Decathlon for spring 2017.

Hauge believes that her community could better tap into nature to positively impact health, wellness and tourism by reducing obesity through exercise and increasing visitors through parks like the Ghost Town Trail.

“Through [local] organizations and as a landscape architect, I strive to provide opportunities for our community members to walk, to improve bike and pedestrian connections, to encourage people to enjoy the benefits of walking and being in nature and to design memorable and meaningful spaces,” she said.

Barbara enjoys time with her family, gardening, yoga, traveling, and photography.
