Spectra Wood, Inc.

Est 1959 / State College

It’s been 47 years since the father-son team of Larry and Doug Roeshot started tooling around with the woodworking trade in the basement workshop of their family home. Using basic woodworking tools, the pair made cutting boards, chess boards, turned candleholders and other small, wooden giftware pieces. Their craftsmanship was well received by the local community in State College.

As the business grew, more sophisticated woodworking equipment was purchased and their product line grew to include larger furniture pieces. Over the coming decades, Spectra would expand dramatically.

Today, Spectra Wood has 115 employees, who work in the firm’s 91,000-square-foot facility. The company specializes in residential and commercial solid wood furniture. To make its products, Spectra Wood procures lumber directly from sawmills in Pennsylvania, including black walnut, American black cherry, ash, soft maple and hard maple.

While many US furniture manufactures continue to source overseas products, all of Spectra’s products are manufactured in State College.

Spectra has been practicing environmentally safe principles for years, from making furniture with lasting designs, using solid hardwood materials that is transported from local forests, to recycling wood dust with local farmers. The manufacturer is continually looking for new ways to help the environment through innovative ways of producing furniture using less energy, producing less waste, and more importantly, producing a better product.
