Lycoming College

Est. 1812 / Williamsport

Founded in 1812, Lycoming College is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected liberal arts colleges. Today, their community of 1,400 active learners from 30 states and 15 countries work with renowned scholars to craft customized, market-driven majors, minors and concentrations across 36 academic programs. These students also compete in 17 NCAA Division III sports and study abroad in more than a dozen countries.

Lycoming College has one of the highest endowment-per-student ratios among Pennsylvania colleges and is ranked by Forbes as among the very best for financial strength and operational soundness. In addition, they have recruited the largest and most diverse class in the college’s history — along with Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Ursinus, Lycoming ranks among the most diverse top liberal arts colleges in Pennsylvania.

Lycoming College also takes seriously its obligation to the local community, both as an economic engine for revitalization, and as a foundation of the area’s cultural and social network. They recently opened the Lycoming College Art Gallery in downtown Williamsport, and partnered with local schools at the new Lynn Science Centee. The faculty’s work has supported $3.5 million in grants for local social services agencies, all earning President Kent C. Trachte — and the college — recognition as the Williamsport Sun-Gazette’s “2015 Person of the Year.”

Moving forward, the college will be putting the liberal arts to work in the new Center for Energy and the Future, the Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences, centers for leadership and entrepreneurship, and its expanded Clean Water Institute. These new and enhanced programs will take advantage of the College’s location at an energy evolution crossroads while also building on an enduring liberal arts model of close faculty mentorship.
